Standard Speculation

Hey there, everyone!

Now that we have a bunch of sculpts in the Glyos line, it got me thinking: what named characters (slash sculpts) still don't have a "Standard" color scheme? And I think the list currently stands as:

• Argen
• Elder Exellis
• Dark Traveler
• Syclodoc
• Enyriun
• Neo Sarvos
• Varteryx

And that's not counting the various Contained Builds we've seen. So, what do you all think the "Standard" colors for these would be?

For the first 3, I've considered their first release colors to be the 'Standard' color scheme, since this was how they appeared in the comics.

So that would be Elder Exellis Genesis Corps, Dark Traveler Rift Breaker (this also makes sense to me because of the Villser association with the colors), and Syclodoc Neutralizer.

For Enyriun, it's kind of like asking which version of Argen is the Standard version. For Argen, I guess it would technically be the version released with the first Glyaxia drop. But I also have his Mk. XX (Villser Core) version on my 'Standard' shelf since this is his powered-up final form. Enyriun would be the same, since there was a Mk. I (Ultra Silver) and a final form Mk. VI (red Gendrone Liberation). Additionally his black Mk. V form appeared in one of the Passcode games.

For Neo Sarvos, I like the idea of the rank-and-file Sarvos being akin to the generic white 'Troopers from another space-faring series, so I use the Enforcer Neo Sarvos as my Standard.

Varteryx, hmm, I wonder. I want to go with one of the black-feathered heads, but that seems too similar to the Armorvor.

Though I gotta say, the whole standard pheyden, Noboto, gobon vs. double-standard pheyden, Noboto, gobon thing is wacky as hell.
The pheyden has detail lines and is painted like his previous releases, but the double standard pheyden has painted arms and hips and darker detail lines. Why? That just makes his arms and hips glossy while the rest of him has that satin plastic sheen. Weird.
Noboto or gobon lacks lines vs detail lines and glossy extra painted areas on the double standards.
But overall, the 3 double standards seem to go together with each other while the standard pheyden with his lines stands out when next to the no detail lines Noboto and gobon.
I kinda wish the original Noboto and gobon had lines to fit with the standard pheyden. But then that would make gobon's beady little eyes seem big and fat like they are on the double standard gobon and his dark outlined eyes. Argh!

D'oh! Yeah, I guess I was assuming that the first release of Argen was the "standard," especially with the Passcodes. I'll add his name to the list.

I like where this is going. I agree with what has been concluded by akum6n.

The gobon that travels with noboto needs a name , maybe just a call sign or number to differentiate him from the rest.

He's been referred to as "Globon" because he has the clicky light in his head for when they need to see in the dark.

Eh, I guess the silver Gobon and yellow Gobon should be treated as two different Gobon characters.

I don't think I like the double standards. I bought DS Noboto and Gobon to see how they would be in-person, but they just seem...overdone.
They and DS pheyden are also susceptible to paint wear on their limbs, and if wear does occur, then the same plastic color will come through the different paint color and stick out like a sore thumb.
That's why I like their regular standards. They're more pvc colors than one pvc color covered by paint, so they'll hold up better to any wear and they don't have such a clash between the glossy paint finish and pvc surface.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the now-mostly-painted releases. I'm always worried about scratching the paint when I disassemble them. However, I think this is probably the way of the future since it allows Matt to run fewer PVC colors and differentiate them via the paint masks and tampos (this is just my speculation, since RealxHead took a similar path a few years back).

I actually like the way DS Noboto turned out... maybe the yellow could have been a touch brighter. But the eyes and armor really look like they came from Passcode comic. They definitely could have skipped the paint rings around Gobon's eyes. Still, I have the original Standard Noboto and (yellow) Gobon on my shelf of Standards.
