CRINCH! #CrabOfTheDay for 04/06/2017: Paramaya spinigera, called Keashigani (ケアシガニ) or "Rough-Legged Crab" in its native Japanese/Taiwanese waters, is a family Majidae/subfamily Majinae species of Asiatic spider crab. Previously known as Maja spinigera and Pisa spinigera, this crab hunts for tasty muck among the hard rubble and reef trenchbeds, especially around Kyushu, and Tokyo Bay! This De Haan catalogued species is known for the extreme array of spines on its carapace, making it similar in appearance to a close cousin: Paramaya ouch. (OUCH is indeed its Latin suffix!)
