So every now and then I have free time do just draw whatever, and sometimes Glyos happens!

Here are some older pieces I've done, first of all.

Image

Trading cards I made a few years ago. Wasn't quite used to using markers back then.

Image

Gobon and Noboto, from when Noboto was officially announced as a release. Colored based on early sketches Matt shared on the blog once.

Image

Did this after the giant Callgrim Vinyl happened. This is what I'd do with one if I ever managed to get my hands on a copy...

I'm starting to notice a trend of doodling any new pieces that are announced when I have downtime. Nach, from the debut of NiStuff's Visitor pack. Sketch and final.

Image

Crayhunter doodle. This build of the figure really got me into Glyans, and inspired an astronaut character I've been trying to doodle here and there as well.

Inktober is a great excuse to get me drawing a whole bunch. The top two are from the year before last, and the bottom two are from last year.
Sometimes I Tweet and sometimes I Tumbl. I don't think that last one's a word.

I also write and draw Homebound, a fantasy webcomic. Check it out!

This brings me to why I decided to start this thread.

Image

I found my old Glyos notebook about a week ago. They came out in like 2014 and they were secret bonus items. I decided I wanted to actually do something with it, though, so I've been doing (or trying to do) a page a day, at least during the work week. I'm hoping to brush up on my IRL inking with this little project. I'll probably update over here every week I finish. Hopefully by the end I'll know what the hell I'm doing with pens and hatching and shit lol.

Round one is Pheyden, an early Argen, Elder Exellis, some Crays, and Gobon and Noboto again, because they're just so cute. Next week I might wander into some sister company designs. We'll see.

Damn dude, you are very skilled. Love your work. I remember some of these from the old forum, and it's very cool to see that you did something with your notebook. I have mine stashed away with my Callgrim cards. Might have to break it out and get to sketching.

Damn, Dwells, just . . . damn. This is high-grade stuff here. And also the best use of that book posted so far.

Question: how do you get started with a drawing? Just a quick pencil sketch that you build off of, do you do the circles and skeleton thing, or something else? Just curious...

Glad you guys like em!

To answer Kranix: yes, I always sketch out in pencil first. They're usually super rough and quick, but if it's a really detailed character or one I'm not super familiar with (ie, most Glyos designs) I'll make a huge mess of the sketch before putting down any ink.

Here's a digital sketch I did recently with visible guidelines. This is semi-topical, too, because she's the one inspired by me finally messing with a Glyan.
